FOX NEWS PUNDIT: POLICE AREN’T RACIST SINCE THEY STOP BLACKS FROM KΙLLING EACH OTHER
One thing that always seems to accompany debates on police brutαlity is fuzzy logic from the far right. Although published studies, such as a recent one by USA Today , prove that black people are heavily harassed by police, right wing pundits are always in search of ways to rationalize that harassment.
During a discussion on Fox News’ “The Five” about de Blasio meeting with leadership from NYPD’s unions, co-host Jesse Watters asserted that police can’t be racist since they don’t allow black people to kιll each other.
“Everyone is saying that the NYPD is racist,” Watters said. “If the NYPD was actually racist, when someone called 911 from a black community, they just wouldn’t even go in. They’d sit there on the perimeter and let them shοot each other.”
Watters then observed that members of the Chinese community in New York don’t complain about police harassment like blacks do.
“There’s some beef in Chinatown, and the NYPD goes to Chinatown and busts some Chinese guy, roughs him up, I don’t see all these Chinese guys out there on the streets protesting,” Watters said.
According to Watters, protesting Eric Garner being chοked to deαth by an NYPD cop is akin to disrespecting the police. And if black people can’t deal with the slαyings and harassment by NYPD officers, then they should just police their own neighborhoods, Watters says.
“Maybe Sharpton can help them out with that, right?” he joked.
Although the NYPD is the focus of this story, a USA Today study shows that police harassment of blacks is a national issue: “At least 70 departments scattered from Connecticut to California arrested black people at a rate 10 times higher than people who are not black, USA TODAY found.”
